Cambridge, Ontario

As a Cambridge realtor, I frequently get asked what part of Cambridge is best to live in. My answer always depends on what the asker’s lifestyle is – do they like to be in the thick of things or are they looking for a quiet spot to settle down? Do they have children or would they prefer to be in a good location to commute to Toronto?

One of the reasons why Cambridge is such an appealing place to live is because of its proximity to Toronto and also because the city itself is mature with a wide range of different styles of homes. There are four main neighbourhoods in Cambridge – each of which I’ve written about before but I think is worth tying together with an nice overview for an even easier comparison.

HESPELERHespeler Village, Cambridge | The Real Estate Blog | Dewar Realty Inc

This neighbourhood is a personal favourite because of the range of homes that are available here. From historic homes to brand new condos, Hespeler is a great place to be and its revitalized downtown area keeps getting better and better! The Speed River runs through Hespeler and its scenic trails make it a perfect place for nature lovers to be near.

PRESTONPreston Community in Cambridge | The Real Estate Blog | Dewar Realty Inc

Preston used to be known as the “Cambridge Mills” and is located in the northwest area of Cambridge. It’s a very centrally located area of the city and is where Riverside Park, Cambridge’s largest park, is located. If you’re the outdoors type or want to be able to get anywhere in the city quickly, this is a great area of town to be in.

GALTGalt, Cambridge | The Real Estate Blog | Dewar Realty Inc

Galt makes up a large part of Cambridge and is broken down into three main neighbourhoods which each have their own unique characteristics. East Galt is an area that’s quickly growing and is a good place for commuters to Brantford and Hamilton. It is where Galt’s downtown core is located, featuring lots of amazing businesses and restaurants. West Galt is often described as a quaint community because of its large number of heritage homes that boast a rich history. It’s close to the Dunfield Theatre and is where the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture is located. North Galt is an area of Cambridge that is close to the 401 and where you’ll find many of Cambridge’s core businesses, malls and plazas. Homes in this area range in age but most are newer, having been built in the past 30 years or so.

This part of Cambridge was settled by Mennonites in the 1800s and remains a heavily forested area with lots of greenery. It’s a picturesque community that’s located just on the outskirts of the city, between Cambridge and Kitchener.
