How to Clean Up Fast - Preparing for last minute house viewingsHow to Clean Up Fast

When it's time to sell your home, the presentation of the property will strongly influence whether buyers make an offer. If you're still living in the house, it can be difficult to prepare for last minute house viewings, especially if your personal belongings are left out. If you want to clean up the house quickly before potential buyers arrive, there are a few important steps to take.

Check Your Curb Appeal

The curb appeal of your home is the first impression that you make on home buyers. Make sure your lawn is nicely trimmed. Spend time daily making sure toys or yard tools are put away neatly. You'll also need to pick up after pets that may spend time in the setting every day.

Remove Clutter

Clutter is an immediate eyesore that will detract from the quality of your home. Spend some time every day putting away books, stacks of paper, and shoes that accumulate on the stairs or in an entryway. All coats and bags by the front door should be hung on a rack to keep everything organized and off of the floor. Avoid throwing everything into closets where buyers will inspect once they visit.

Adjust the Temperature

Many sellers make the mistake of failing to keep the air conditioner running during the summer months or forget to turn the heater on in the middle of winter. Adjust the thermostat to ensure that the interior setting is comfortable and that buyers can take their time exploring the home with a realtor like Greg Dewar. The inside of the house should be between 70 to 74 degrees in the summer and 72 to 76 degrees in the winter season.

Turn on the Lights

Leave lights turned on if there is a potential for a home viewing.

It's also important to open up the blinds and allow sunlight into each room to create a bright and cheerful setting that is uplifting.

Wipe Down the Kitchen

Wipe down the kitchen countertops and polish all surfaces to make them shine. The inside of the oven should be clean and free of spills or residue. You can enhance the appeal of the room by putting out a fresh plate of bread or coffee that will increase the scent of the space. You'll also need to put away dog or cat bowls that are left out in the kitchen.

Empty Garbage Cans, Dishwashers & Laundry Machines

If people are really interested in your house, they will be looking at every nook and cranny. Remember to keep your garbage cans as empty as possible to avoid unwanted smells. This is also true for your dishwasher & washing machine.
