Monday, February 21st is Family Day in Waterloo Region and all of Ontario! A perfectly welcomed break from all the stresses the new year can bring, none the least being all the snow we just received! Since its inception in 2007, Family Day has been a time for families to get together, enjoy a little quality time, and have some fun.
Thankfully, Waterloo Region is full of fun family activities and events to help you make the most of the day! You can even take advantage of Ontario's Staycation Tax Credit to allow for even more adventures, including booking a stay at one of the many hotels, motels, and inns in the region.

1. Chicopee Ski

Why not get out and enjoy our Canadian winter with a day of snow tubing? Timed passes can be booked online: and if you work up an appetite, there are outdoor options available for BBQ food, as well as take & go food/beverage items.
3. THEMUSEUM UNZIPPED

Get some Satisfaction and head to THEMUSEUM in Kitchener to take in the Rolling Stones UNZIPPED exhibit. This is the first international exhibition devoted to the world-famous rock band, and it makes its debut in Canada at THEMUSEUM. The show boasts more than 300 original objects from the Stones' personal collection: highlights include a replica of their recording studio, an immersive reconstruction of their Chelsea flat "Edith Grove", and culminates in a mind-blowing three-dimensional experience.

Celebrate Family Day outdoors at the Kitchener Market! Strap on your skates and enjoy our synthetic ice rink with live music on the piazza (near the King Street entrance). There will be free hot chocolate, and Chef D and his team will be selling fresh donuts and other snacks from their wood-fired popup kitchen. You can also register for indoor, family-focused programming with a Chef Nicole Cooking Class or crafting a smash book with Mindful Makers.
7. St. Jacobs & Aberfoyle Model Railway

This amazing "O" Scale model railway layout in St. Jacobs is generally closed during the winter; however, it does open for families to enjoy during the Family Day weekend!
8. Rediscover the Long Weekend in St. Jacobs

Take an Art Walk, shop at unique retailers, and head to an Après Ski party at Fat Sparrow's Big Tent! There are lots to do in the Village of St. Jacobs during the Family Day long weekend.

Ontario Family Fishing Events is a province-wide opportunity for residents to fish Ontario waters for free. Locally, you can try your hand at ice fishing at Shade's Mills Conservation Area in Cambridge (weather permitting: check here for the daily ice fishing status).

Visit KWAG for free family-friendly art activities inspired by its current exhibitions. Create a star, moon, or planet that represents your family, and add it to the growing interactive universe on view throughout Expressions 47. Explore the experimental sketchbooks created through the InSight project, and make a miniature zine inspired by your family. Art activities are designed for ages 4-12 with an adult companion.
15. Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery at Home Kits
This family day you can relax and create your own clay artwork at home, then bring it into the Clay & Glass Gallery for firing. Each kit comes with everything you need to create your work of art – choose from a Charcuterie Plate Kit, a Claytime at Home kit, or even a Date Night Workshop @ home.

19. North Dumfries Community Centre Family Day Fun

Family skates, pickleball, and treks on the walking track are all part of this year’s family day event at the North Dumfries Community Centre in Ayr. Pre-registration is required for some events and there are capacity limits for some activities.
